Area of a Triangle

Basics

If we talk about Right angle triangle , It is clearly seen that the triangle is half of Rectangle or square. All triangle are half of their respective quadrilateral. Therefore area of a triangle is half of their respective rectangle (Quadrilateral). You can see the picture given below for better understanding.

Area of a triangle

Since we know that the Area of Rectangle  = Length * Breadth. But in given figure  we seen that the Triangle is a half  of Rectangle.

Therefore Area of Triangle  = 1/2(Area of Rectangle)

Formula of Area of triangle

In terms of Triangle, we say length = height and breadth = base, 

So Area of triangle = 1/2(Base *Height)

We Should remember that the base and height are perpendicular to each other. Means they meets each other at Right Angle ( 90 degree).

For Remembering the formula : Area of Triangle = Half of Area of Rectangle

For better understanding of base and height there are three figure are given below. It it helpful for the student that they can understand.

Example

Example 1: Find the Area of Triangle Whose base is 4 cm and height is 10 cm.

Solution : It is known that 
area of triangle = 1/2( Base * Height)
                            =1/2(4*10)
                             =20 cm^2
 

Example 2: If base is 6cm and height is 8cm, then Find the area of the given triangle?

Solution : we have given base = 6cm and height = 8cm . it is known that ,

Area of the triangle= 1/2(Base*Height)

                                   = 1/2 (6*8)

                                   =1/2(48)

                                  = 24 cm^2

Example 3:  In given figure base is 2.2cm and height is 4.4cm  Find the area of triangle?

Solution : It is given that, base = 2.2cm and height = 4.4cm 

Area of a triangle = 1/2(base*height)

                                = 1/2(2.2*4.4)

                                = 1/2(9.68)

                                = 4.84 cm^2

Example 4: Find the area of the given triangle?

Solution : In given figure we have base = 2cm and height = 3cm, so

Area of a triangle = 1/2(base*height)

                                = 1/2(2*3)

                                = 1/2(6)

                                = 3 cm^2

Example 5: Find the area of the given triangle?

Solution :In this figure, base =10cm and height = 15cm, therefore

Area of a triangle = 1/2(base*height)

                                = 1/2(10*15)

                                = 1/2(150)

                               = 75 cm^2

Example 6: Find the area of the given triangle?

Solution :from this figure we have, base = 18cm  and height = 10cm

Area of a triangle = 1/2(base*height)

                                = 1/2(18*10)

                                = 1/2(180)

                                = 90 cm^2

Example 6: Find the  area of the triangle whose base measures 24 cm and the corresponding height measures 14.5 cm.

Solution : It is known that area of triangle is = 1/2(Base*height)

 = 1/2(24*14.5)

 = 1/2(348)

 = 174 cm^2 

Area of Equilateral Triangle

A triangle which  all sides are equal  is called equilateral triangle.
